ISTDP Core Training
We offer an IEDTA accredited three-year core training programme based in Exeter. Five face-to-face teaching and supervision blocks of two days per year, plus three online seminars with special guest speakers, and an annual in-person conference.
Learn the theory and application of ISTDP including the underpinning psychoanalytic and attachment principles, psychodiagnosis, fostering conscious and unconscious therapeutic alliance, working with resistance, working with ego fragility, facilitating the experience of complex transference feelings, and unlocking the unconscious.
All core blocks are Thursday-Friday outside of UK School Holidays. Course Fee of £2500 per year can be paid annually or monthly depending on trainee circumstances. We also accept NHS funding.
This is a small group training delivered in the peaceful setting of the University of Exeter. We use a competency-based approach with an emphasis on establishing deep theoretical understanding and clinically effective practice embedded within your own authentic therapy stance.
Trainees bring video recordings of therapy cases and receive live supervision. We pay careful attention to individual and group process to support your learning experience, build your confidence as an ISTDP therapist, and foster a meaningful and enjoyable environment for personal and professional growth.
